Why do we do what we do? As I mentioned in my previous post, I am participating in Natalie Sisson's 10 day blog challenge! The focus for today's post is on 'Discovering Your Why'. After really thinking about this, I have pinpointed my why as:
Helping people gain the confidence to take the next step in their careers so that they can reach their potential and be paid what they are worth.
Even though I work in Human Resources as my full time job, my ability to help people is extremely limited. I have to adhere to the company's policies and am really there to be on the side of the company and not the employees. If I see a situation with an employee where I felt like they would be better off applying for a higher paying position at another company, I certainly don't have the option of coaching them in that regard. My employer wouldn't be too happy about me encouraging high performers to leave the company :).
By becoming a career coach on my own, I have the freedom to listen to people from an independent perspective and give them advice on what I hear. With my experience in Recruiting and Human Resources I can help them make moves that will benefit them and help them reach their goals. This makes me happy and makes me feel free and like I am making a difference in someone's life. The joy I feel when a client thanks me for helping them land their dream job is amazing and fuels me to find new ways to help more people.
What is your why? Share this post on social media and use #careerwhy so I can see your responses!
